 Peter and the other apostles were emboldened  after the resurrection, not before, when they could not have removed the presumed dead body, as the Pharisees said. It is inexplicable to human reason, by the way, how those followers changed overnight. Additionally, in order to seek for the truth it is crucial what Jesus himself said: "By their works you will know them." Jesus, if he was not God, was a sage "from out of this world", as we say colloquially (for us believers that is literal). Because that criterion to seek the truth is so robust that it is the base of the modern scientific method, as I have shown in other places, as in here:
